PICSI — Physiological ICSI
An advanced refinement of ICSI that selects the most mature, healthiest sperm before fertilisation.

- Hyaluronic-acid sperm selection
- Selects mature, DNA-intact sperm
- Performed in our embryology lab
About this treatment
PICSI (Physiological Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is an enhanced version of ICSI. Before a sperm is injected into the egg, it is selected by its ability to bind to hyaluronic acid — the same natural substance that surrounds the egg in the body.
Sperm that bind in this way tend to be more mature and to carry less fragmented DNA. By choosing these sperm, PICSI aims to improve fertilisation, embryo quality and the chance of a healthy pregnancy — particularly where sperm quality or DNA fragmentation is a concern.
Who it's for
- High sperm DNA fragmentation
- Previous poor fertilisation or embryo quality
- Recurrent miscarriage with a suspected sperm factor
- Unexplained IVF or ICSI failure
Key benefits
- Selects more mature, healthier sperm
- May improve fertilisation and embryo quality

PICSI — your questions
Common questions about this treatment. Anything else? Our team is happy to talk it through.
Standard ICSI selects sperm mainly on appearance and movement. PICSI adds a functional test — how well the sperm binds to hyaluronic acid — to choose more mature sperm with healthier DNA.
Couples with high sperm DNA fragmentation, previous fertilisation problems, or unexplained IVF failure or miscarriage. Your specialist will advise if it's right for you.
