Endometriosis
When tissue like the uterine lining grows outside the uterus — a common, treatable cause of pain and infertility.
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside it — on the ovaries, fallopian tubes or pelvis. Each month this tissue bleeds, causing inflammation, scarring and adhesions that can be painful and can affect fertility.
It's common and often under-diagnosed. With accurate diagnosis and the right combination of medical, surgical and fertility care, women with endometriosis can both manage their symptoms and conceive.
How Endometriosis affects fertility
Endometriosis can affect fertility by distorting pelvic anatomy, damaging the ovaries or tubes, and creating an inflammatory environment. The impact ranges from mild to significant, so treatment is tailored to your stage and goals.
How we diagnose & treat it
Diagnosis is guided by your history, examination and ultrasound, and confirmed where needed by laparoscopy — which also lets us treat the disease in the same sitting.
For fertility, options range from carefully chosen laparoscopic surgery to clear endometriosis and restore anatomy, through to IVF, which is highly effective and bypasses many of the barriers endometriosis creates.
Frequently asked
Yes. Many women with endometriosis conceive naturally or with treatment. Depending on severity, options include surgery to restore anatomy or IVF, which is very effective.
Surgery can remove visible disease, relieve pain and improve fertility, but endometriosis can recur. We plan surgery carefully around your symptoms and fertility goals.
